What the heck is Handfasting?

Handfasting…. hmmm… It all started a bunch of years ago, at a sushi buffet…oh wait, you asked, “what the heck is a Handfasting?” A long, long time ago, no, longer than that, before this dude named Jesus walked the earth, humans lived in very different sorts of societies that we do now. In little villages the agrarian people would take life partners by the simple joining of hands in front of their village. For non-aristocracy, this remained the primary form of marriage in England until it was outlawed in 1753. Many things have changed since The Burning Times, and now, should two witches desire, their union can be sanctified by Pagan clergy in Pagan ways and also recognized by the state.

So, back to the story about the sushi, the one we really want to tell.

She said...

First, you should know that it’s all Dina’s fault. There was sushi, even though Jay isn’t the biggest fan. Then Jay came to horse shows with me and helped! Despite the early and sometimes also late hours, the dust, the rain, the restless horse and needed to be walked, or held still. Then I bought him a pony for Yule. You can meet the pony if you come to our ritual. Then there was Witchcraft. How could I possibly be SO LUCKY to find someone who not only shared my love of horses, but also wanted to be part of The Craft? Someone who would magically enhance my household, and help me bale hay? Apparently miracles do happen.

He said...

First there was Dina, and having lunch with her and her friend. Then there was OkCupid, and a profile that I immediately knew whose it was. And then there was Hot Foods, where I was uncharacteristically forward. She tried to scare me away with various aspects of her life: farm machinery, horses, witchcraft, etc. It took her a while to realize that when I said "those are all bonuses," I meant it. And she puts up with my disorganization, and computers, and books, and my family. The rest is history.
